Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Double standards

Sir, — There was not much reaction in Parliament or the media when the Godhra train carnage took place.

Once the Hindus started retaliating, there was regular mayhem in Parliament and outrage in the press. In Congress-ruled States, when Hindus are attacked, the police are normally inactive. When they retaliate, then secularism comes into the picture. The police and Congress leaders swing into action. Peace rallies are held. The media is usually silent or slanted at best.

The double standards are very much evident in the Congress and Communist leaders and the media on the Gujarat incidents.

Ashok Kumar Prasad,

Mangalore, Karnataka
