Sir, The recent visit of Sonia Gandhi to Anantapur to offer solace to families of farmers, who had committed suicide is an attempt by the Congress to derive political mileage from the farmers' plight. If all her security and air expenses are calculated along with the money spent by local Congress leaders to attract her attention, the amount will be far more than the actual benefit given to the families. A strong will on the part of the Government with a helping hand from the Opposition is all that is needed to prevent suicides. Farmers should be briefed about the repayment modalities before availing loans and should be educated about the latest scientific farming methods. V.S. Vijay Kumar, Hyderabad
