Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the report `3000 child marriages in Chhatisgarh' (April 24). Fortunately the event did not take place in any BJP-ruled State. Had it been so, Parliament would have been stalled for another week. The suggestion of Mr. Arcot Easwaran in his letter (April 26) to impose heavy penalties is not practicable. A country that does not implement prohibition and that can do little against corruption can never think of penalising violators of the marriage act provisions. N.R. Sathyamurthy, Cuddalore, T.N.
