Panel to consider entry of foreign law firms

NEW DELHI May 1. The Law Commission of India has undertaken a study of reviewing the Advocates Act, 1961 for improving the standards of legal education and the legal profession as well as to consider the entry of foreign law firms into India.

The Commission has prepared a working paper and circulated it to various persons and organisations including the Supreme Court, High Courts, the Bar Council of India, Bar Council of States and various Bar associations to elicit views on the subject.

The study includes legal education, professional training, professional competence, social responsibility, entry of foreign legal consultants, liberalisation of legal practice, management and development of profession.
