`Help Gujarat victims'

NEW DELHI MAY 1. The Press Institute of India has appealed for donations to help victims of violence in Gujarat rebuild their lives.

In a statement it said: Violence in Gujarat has dealt a body blow not only to its direct victims, but also to the image of India as a composite and pluralist society. Thousands need help to rebuild their lives.

The Press Institute of India, on behalf of the media, appeals to Indians, wherever they are, to demonstrate to the people of Gujarat and the world that we care, that we stand behind them; and that we will help to rebuild not only their homes and livelihoods, but also mutual confidence and trust.

Your cheques may be made out to any of the following:

Aman Ekta Manch: c/o Jagori, C-54, South Extension Part II, New Delhi-110 048. Citizen's Initiative: Opposite St. Xaviers School, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad-380 009. ActionAid India Society, Action Aid, 71 Uday Park, New Delhi-110 049.

The appeal has been endorsed by leading Editors and journalists.
