Tamil Nadu
By Nirupama Subramanian
Speakers at the rally, which was more a Tamil nationalist celebration, condemned the Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution demanding the extradition of the LTTE leader, V. Prabakaran. One of the speakers, S.N.G. Nathan, a veteran member of the Tamil United Liberation Front, demanded that Ms. Jayalalithaa be extradited to "Tamil Eelam'' and tried for alleged atrocities committed by the 1987-1990 Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka. To loud applause, Mr. Nathan warned that if India dared to arrest Mr. Prabakaran, "thousands and thousands of Prabakarans'' would take his place. Three members of the LTTE political wing from its recently-opened office in Vavuniya were among those present on the stage.
