Sir, The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, must be commended for preventing the BJP from embracing the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the Bajrang Dal and the RSS. Despite being criticised for his views regarding the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, Mr. Naidu stood by the policy of secularism. But for the Telugu Desam Party, things would have been much different. The Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, would have adopted the RSS's position to gain political mileage. Mr. Naidu did well to throw out the dirty water from the bathtub without throwing the baby with it. Though the conditions in Gujarat are heartrending, nothing would have been gained by dislodging the Government at the Centre. P. Isaac Prabhakar, Vijayawada
