Letters to the Editor
Sir, If the reaction of the Western countries to the Gujarat developments is any indication, the Government has failed miserably in its public relations exercise. We find almost all of them doing a balancing act between India and Pakistan. On the other hand, Pakistan has won hands down on the PR front despite its role in the creation of the Taliban and the support extended to its government and its sibling, the Al Qaeda. That the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, made a180 degree turn on the Taliban only goes to prove that his ulterior motive is not to fight against terrorism and fundamentalism but to help his Kashmir cause and to bleed India. The NDA-led coalition seems to totally ignore the country's interests and the need for unity and communal harmony. It has failed on all fronts. Now the carnage in Gujarat has reduced the NDA Government and India to being the laughing of the world. K.V. Chalam, New Delhi
