Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to Shriram Raghunathan's letter `Bogies for jawans' (April 23). There could be no two opinions about the respect, regard and recognition to be given to our Armymen. But my experience with them on the train was bitter during my visit to Varanasi some time ago. My wife, I and another retired lady boarded a train to Gaya from Mughalsarai and hurriedly got into a compartment occupied by jawans with few seats vacant. Though the compartment was not reserved, a group of jawans prevented us from entering it and later did not allow us either to occupy the seats or stand. After a heated argument, we occupied the seats. When the train reached Gaya, the jawans were reluctant to give way for us to get down on the platform side, a jump wer were incapable of performing. R. Mahadevan, Chennai
