India makes it to the knock-out stage

NEW DELHI MAY 2. Sumit Prakash and Rupesh Roy took India into the knock-out stage by notching up an unbeatable 2-0 lead against the third-seeded Australia in the Asia-Oceania World junior (under-14) tennis tournament in Colombo on Thursday.

Both Sumit and Rupesh won their matches in three sets, to maintain an unbeaten record. The fifth-seeded India had beaten Indonesia and Chinese Taipei earlier in group `II'. Though, India had ensured its entry into the quarterfinals, it will have to complete the doubles matches, against Australia and Chinese Taipei, like all other teams, to decide the group placings.

The results: India bt Australia 2-0 (Sumit Prakash Gupta bt Anthony Tuong 5-7, 6-1, 6-1; Rupesh Roy bt Todd Ley 6-1, 1-6, 6-3; Sumit/Rupes v Stephen Fotakis/Todd Ley - suspended due to rain.)
