Ram in joint lead

Pollachi May 2. Defending champion Ram S. Krishnan of Chennai is among the 11 players who are jointly leading in the Tamil Nadu Golden Jubilee chess championship for the V.J. Brahmiah Memorial Trophy organized by Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology here on Thursday.

The other leaders after the third round are C.J. Arvind, Ebenezer Joseph, J. Venkatramana, G. Dinesh Kumar, V. Srinivas (all Chennai), Syed Anwar Shazuli, H. Venkatesh (both Kancheepuram), D. Devendrakumar (Thiruvallur), A. Muthuswamy (Coimbatore) and youngster S. Arun Prasad of Salem.

C. Natarajan confused the Tamil Nadu sub-junior girls' champion, Mahima Rajmohan by making a

lot of unorthodox moves in the opening. And Pazha Sivakami of Sivagangai District was beaten by

C.J. Arvind. Former National under-12 girls champion L. Iswarya Shobana was beaten from an almost equal position by Ebenezer Joseph in 42 moves. Ram S. Krishnan beat the talented Sivagangai younster K. Narayanan after the latter blundered away a pawn on the fifth move itself.

Coimbatore lad C. Vinith was on 2/2 but lost his third round game.

Tomorrow, there is only one round. Eight more rounds remain.
