Gangsters kill 4 Dalits

By K. Balchand

PATNA MAY 2 . Four Dalits were killed by a dreaded criminal gang on Wednesday night for refusing to spare their pot of toddy with them.

Their bodies were found near a canal near Chap village of Gopalganj this morning. The four had been kidnapped from Puraina village on Wednesday morning.

The kidnapping and murder were a sequel to an incident on Tuesday when the gang leader, Barku Mian's father, Munshi Mian, demanded toddy from the Dalits, who, apparently intoxicated by then, declined to oblige him. The police maintained that in the clash that followed, Munshi Mian was beaten up. The infuriated Barku Mian, accompanied by his younger brother, father and an accomplice, raided the village and killed the four.
