In line with our thinking, says Pak.

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD May 3. Pakistan today welcomed the remarks made by the U.S. National Security Adviser, Condoleezza Rice, that India should resume the dialogue with Pakistan and work to reduce border tension.

Responding to the observations made by Dr. Rice in the course of an exclusive interview to The Hindu, the Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesman, Aziz Ahmed Khan, said that her remarks were in line with the thinking of Islamabad.

``We have repeatedly been saying that there should be a dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues between the two countries. We are ready for talks any time.

"For commencement of a dialogue, India should withdraw its forces on the border. Pakistan believes that New Delhi and Islamabad can pick up the threads from where we left at Agra,'' Mr. Khan said.

In her observations Dr. Rice had said that ``there is a sense in which as the Pakistanis have tried to be responsive — and they have tried to be responsive, we do believe they are doing some things — that it would be good for India to take some steps too.''
