Michael Stich in 1994 was the last German player to lift this clay-court event, with Tommy Haas the last finalist in 2000. Sixth seed El Aynaoui, beaten last week in Barcelona by Lleyton Hewitt, bounced back in Germany, adding the trophy to those already won at Doha and at Casablanca. He won $48,850 and a car from the sponsor for his efforts. ``It's so nice to win,'' said El Aynaoui, who admitted that he doubted at the start of the tournament that he would last more than a round or two. ``I had lost in the quarterfinals last week and I had a problem with my arm. I only came with one set of tennis clothes and had to borrow some to get through the tournament. ``Rainer played tough in front of his home fans. But I was very concentrated and focussed. I could only think about trying to win.'' Schuttler holds two career titles but was never close to lifting a third against the fast-moving Moroccan. El Aynaoui wrapped up victory on his first match point in just over an hour. Schuttler was playing a final in Germany for the first time. ``It's very special,'' he said. ``Every final is nice but playing one in Germany was one of my big goals.'' El Aynaoui, who came into the week standing eighth in the Champions points race, has now beaten the German in three meetings this season.
