Sir, This is in reference to the report `Move on to ex-communicate Muslim BSP MLAs' (May 3). Such `fatwas' are despicable and it is unbecoming of the clergy to indulge in politics when they should be restricting themselves to religious discourses. Such bigots are the real cause of religious intolerance and bring a bad name to Islam. Islam is being made synonymous with jehadi fanatics and fundamental militants. Under the present circumstances, why do the clerics want to impose their dictates on the elected MLAs? When Islam advocates tolerance, this goes counter to the Koranic teachings and makes a mockery of the religion. It would be in the fitness of things if these religious leaders do not go beyond the barriers of religion.
S.S. Hussain,
