Letters to the Editor
Sir, The U.S. Ambassador, Robert Blackwill's article (May 3) clears many doubts and clarifies the misgivings on several issues. But there is an element of uncertainty in when Mr. Blackwill says, "If the visitor needs more than 30 days, the longer period would normally be approved." Visitors will have a lot of apprehension at the port of entry as they would have arrived after incurring huge expenditure on tickets, insurance and foreign exchange. The immigration official could refuse to stamp the period asked for. Till now six months used to be stamped. The return tickets and insurance are all valid for four months and up to six months, if needed. It is urged that visitors visa may be granted for six months as before.
