Jamir's move to solve Naga issue

KOHIMA MAY 6 . The Nagaland Chief Minister, S. C. Jamir, today said his Government had already communicated to the Centre its decision to withdraw arrest warrants against the NSCN (I-M) leaders, Issac Chishi Swu and and Thuingaleng Muivah, to enable them to visit the country.

This would help them carry forward the political negotiations for an amicable settlement to the protracted Naga problem. It was left to them to decide whether to hold talks in the country or elsewhere, the Chief Minister said. The warrants were issued against the two leaders, after an attempt on the life of the Nagaland Chief Minister on November 29, 1999.

Mizo CM's efforts

Meanwhile, the Mizoram Chief Minister, Zoramthanga, today left for Kolkata from where he would fly to Bangkok tomorrow to hold talks with the NSCN (I-M) leadership, official sources said.

This would be his second meeting with the top NSCN (I-M) leaders.

A former rebel leader himself, Mr. Zoramthanga was earlier approached by both the Centre and the NSCN to broker a peace deal to solve the Naga problems.

He, however, said he would not be involved in offering packages for reaching an accord and his role would be to build mutual trust between the two parties.

All the political parties should strive to bring peace in the trouble-torn North-East region, he said.
