Cong. demands Singhal's arrest

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI MAY 6. The Congress today demanded the arrest of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad president, Ashok Singhal, for his remarks in Lucknow yesterday. " We demand that he be booked and charged under Sections 153 and 153(A) of the IPC'', said the party spokesperson, Jaipal Reddy.

Describing Mr. Singhal as a "dangerous enemy of Hindu society," Mr. Reddy challenged his claim of being its representative . "He doesn't represent the glorious traditions of Hindu civilisation, in fact, he is the very antithesis of it''.

The Congress leader described Mr. Singhal's statement as shocking by even his own standards and criticised the Prime Minister for not commenting on it. "It is undesirable for the Prime Minister to be a leader of the NDA as well as a cousin of the VHP''.Mr. Singhal had said in Lucknow that Islamic forces had been dealt a body blow by the backlash in Gujarat to the Godhra carnage.
