Letters to the Editor
Sir, We welcome the proposed Tamil Nadu Plastic Articles (Prohibition of Sale, Storage, Transport and Use) Bill, 2002 and urge the Legislature to grant its sanction to it. We hope that Tamil Nadu will be a model State to have actually followed the will of the people and nature, to rid themselves of poison plastics such as PVC (poly vinyl chloride). We congratulate the Forests and Environment Minister, P. Mohan, for championing the cause of public health and the environment. We urge S.R. Balasubramaniam and B. Renganathan, Opposition leaders, to use their common sense and realise that "if the problem is that of a bucket overflowing, the only way one can stop it is by turning off the tap".
Manu Gopalan,
