A bold step

Sir, — This is with reference to a news report on the arrest of employers of child workers at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The rescued children were admitted to the Child Labour Rehabilitation Residential Centre. It is a bold step taken by the Government.

Similar steps should be taken in Tamil Nadu also where a number of children are employed in hotels, shops and beedi units for meagre wages. It is a welcome move that the Tamil Nadu Government is rehabilitating such child labourers and street children. The freed child workers should be given proper education and awareness should be created among the people against child labour.
