The awards will be presented by the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, here tomorrow. Dr. Shenoy has been bestowed the Life Time Achievement Award 2001 in recognition of his contribution to radar technologies and continuous support and guidance to DRDO and the services. A microwave engineer, Dr. Shenoy's personal achievements in the field of electronics engineering span a wide area of electronic systems ranging from radars, electronic warfare to communications and secrecy systems. Dr. Kota has been conferred the Technology Leadership Award for his outstanding contribution in aerospace technologies. He is the programme Director of LCA. The Agni Award for Excellence in Self Reliance goes to C.G.S. Sarma and team (defence bio-technology); K.V.S.S. Prasad Rao and team; S. Neelakantan and team (advanced light helicopter); V.L. Narasimhan and team (rocket technology) and V.S. Hashilkar and team (Arjun main battle tank). The performance excellence award goes to P.K. Venkatachalam and team. The Defence Technology Absorption Award goes to Astra Microwaves Products, Secunderabad, and MTR Foods Ltd., Bangalore. The academic excellence award will be conferred on G.R. Nagabhushana and K.P. Rao. Scientist of the Year Awards have gone to H.V. Batra (anthrax), Kambham Santeppa, M.B. Verma (aeronautical development agency), Malathi Limaye (UAV Nishant), S. Varadarajan (radars and electronic warfare), Subramanian Sivaraman (fire control computers for Arjun), Suresh Chandra (multi barrel rocket system Pinaka), T.S. Raghavan (robotics), V.L. Narasimha Rao (shorter version of Agni missiles) and V. Vasudeva Murthy (Prithvi and Dhanush). The Defence Technology Spin Off Award goes to the Defence Research and Development Establishment, Gwalior, for its contribution to successful development and production of Slow Release Insecticidal Paint.
