'Annadhanam' at Sabarimala mooted

CHENNAI May. 10. The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) is actively considering introduction of ``Annadhanam'' on the pattern of free meals provided in temples of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Board in Tamil Nadu for Sabarimala devotees beginning from November this year.

Detailing his exploratory visit to study the Annadhanam scheme recently introduced by the AIADMK Government in Tamil Nadu, D. Sasidharan, aaa TDB member,told a news conference here today that in this connection, he visited Kapaleeswarar Temple in Chennai besided held discussions with the HR & CE Minister, P.C. Ramaswamy, and other senior officials of the Department.

Explaining that the TDB was keenly interested in promoting a pilgrim circuit covering all important temples in and around Sabarimala, he appealed to the ardent devotees of Lord Ayyappa or the State Government to donate a piece of land to construct an exclusive information centre of the TDB to cater to the increasing stream of pilgrims. In this context, he noted nearly two crore devotees visited Sabarimala last year, out of which Tamil Nadu's share was nearly 30 to 35 per cent. ``We are examining the possibility of opening an information centre at the Tamil Nadu Tourism Complex'', he added.
