By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI May 10. Eight persons, including the CPI (M) candidate, T. Nandagopal, and the dummy candidate, M. Chandran, filed nominations today for the Saidapet Assembly seat.

For the Acharapakkam (reserved) seat, two persons filed their papers. A release from the Election Commission said eight filed nominations from the Vaniymabadi constituency, including Abdulla Basha of the Lok Jan Sakthi. Till today, a total of 13 nominations have been filed in Saidapet, 10 in Acharapakkam and 17 in Vaniymabadi.

Our Vellore Staff Reporter reports:

Chengai Sivam of the DMK caused a flutter, filing his nomination as Independent from the Vaniyambadi constituency.

Enquiries revealed that Mr. Sivam's nomination was a strategy to have additional agents for the official DMK candidate, Nagoor Hanifa, during the counting process. The MDMK candidate, R.Lakshmikanthan, is among the eight candidates who filed their papers today.
