Annuraj wins air pistol bronze

NEW DELHI MAY 12. Annuraj Singh bagged the bronze with a 375 in women's air pistol in the International junior shooting competition in Suhl, Germany.

Annuraj had a series of 88, 96, 94 and 97, and she was able to push Shweta Chaudhary to the fourth place in the final, after the latter had scored a 377 with a series of 93, 94, 95 and 95. In fact, the gold and silver went for 370 and 369 to Agnieszka Korejwo of Poland and Nina Recker of Germany, who had `four winner points' and `three winner points' to two and one by Annuraj and Shweta.

Had there been a regular final, as in the Olympic events in the senior events, the Indian girls could have finished better. In men's air pistol, Zakhir Khan finished joint fifth with a 570. He had rounds of 95, 92, 95, 97, 95 and 96. Ronak Pandit was joint 14th with a 560, as he had rounds of 89, 97, 93, 97, 93 and 91. Deepak Sharma finished joint 21 with a 556 and Nikhil Singh was joint 29th with a 551. Christoph Schmid of Switzerland took the gold with a 580.

Meena Kumari was joint fifth in women's air rifle, with a 394. She shot an impressive series of 98, 99, 98 and 99. Aurore Eberwein of France grabbed the gold despite a 393, as she ended up with `four winner points'.

Sabeeha Dhillon was joint 19th with a 389, as she had an up and down series of 99, 96, 99 and 95. Chetanpreet Kaur was joint 22nd with a 388 (96, 99, 97 and 96) and Raj Kumari was joint 28th with a 387 (98, 97, 96 and 96). M. Dhareenee was joint 41st with a 379 (97, 90, 96 and 96), while Navpreet Singh took the joint 50th spot with a 370 (89, 95, 93 and 93).

Ronak Pandit could not weave any magic in rapid fire pistol, and had to be content finishing ninth with a 573. Tobias Essert (577), Martin Behrendt (580) and Thomas Muller (587) of Germany took the gold, silver and bronze.

Briendeep Sodhi had rounds of 21, 19, 21, 17 and 20 in finishing 10th in trap with a 98. Ankur Singh took the 24th spot with a 68. Oguzhan Tuzun of Turkey shot a 24 in the final following a 122 out of 125 in the preliminary phase to take the gold, miles ahead of the rest of the pack, from Germany, Czech Republic and Finland. Abhijeet Konduskar could not distinguish himself in the free rifle 3-position event, as he had an aggregate of 1129 for the joint 20th slot. Claus Hildebrand of Germany took the gold with a 1168.
