SAF Games gold medallist K. Shankar (Indian Bank) and S.S. Sundar (Southern Railway) shared the men's individual championship, with 14 points each, while R. Sneha Princy (Velammal Prime Sports Academy) with 28 points emerged the women's champion. Nilgiris DAAA (58 pts) clinched the overall championship for men and VPSA (123 pts) garnered the women's team championship. Southern Railway (171 pts) was adjudged the overall champion. Undoubtedly, the star today was S. Shanthi (gold in discus throw and hammer throw). Competing in the 800m for the first time, the J.J. College of Arts and Science girl from Pudukottai pipped the much famed N. Tharani (winner of the junior Nationals in January 2002 in Chennai) by two seconds to clinch the gold medal. Yet another youngster A. Amudha of Velammal Prime Sports Academy came up with her best effort of 1.66m to clinch the first place in the high jump event, relegating S. Sangeetha to the second spot. Mr. W.I. Davaram, President, TNAAA, at the prize distribution function, accepted responsibility for the association's inability to keep the records. Mr. C.
