Akash, Gambhir and Kanitkar run riot

COLOMBO MAY 12. Openers Akash Chopra (145) and Gautam Gambhir (105) added 252 for the first wicket as India `A' declared its first innings at 474 for nine on the second day of its three-day match against BCCSL Academy XI here today. At close, the Academy XI was 108 for two.

After Akash and Gambhir had flayed the Academy attack, skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar joined the run feast blasting 97 with 18 fours and two sixes. He was unlucky to miss the coveted three-figure mark, falling to Rupasinghe.

The scores: India `A' 474 for seven decl. (Akash Chopra 145, Gautam Gambhir 105, Hrishikesh Kanitkar 97, Parthiv Patel 51 not out, Ratnayake three for 96) vs BCCSL Academy XI 108 for two (S. Kalavitigoda 45, Vandort 38 batting).
