Kaptan Singh maintained a thin advantage right through the 750-metre swim and though team-mate Mahesh Shinde, also from Services Sports Control Board and Indian Triathlon Academy, posed a stiff challenge on the track, Kaptan Singh was able to win by 20 seconds. Services Sports Control Board had two titles both won by Kaptan Singh and Kalpana of Tamil Nadu emerged winner in the women's aquathlon. In the title deciding race however it was a different story. Manju Deepak put in a determined effort to first collect a narrow advantage from the pool. Skanda Aswath was second out of the pool and Syed Jabbir third. However on the track it was a straight contest between Manju Deepak and Syed Jabbir. The latter did manage to reduce a 100m lead to about 60 metres but Manju Deepak with some sustained running and a good second wind held on to bag the title. In the Sub-Junior Boys section, K. Naveen of Karnataka collared State-mate Abiram on the track and took over the lead. Abiram who was slightly faster in the pool was unable to stave off Naveen's powerful and loping strides and had to bow to a better effort. Another person to impress was sub-junior girl L. Priyanka also of Karnataka. Priyanka displayed immense potential both in the pool and on the track to win the event. Australian Coach Brett Mace presently at the ITA was quite impressed by Priyanka's efforts and said the youngster had potential which needed to be channelised. Col. A.S. Chand of the MEG & Centre gave away the prizes. Besides trophies cash prizes were also given to the first three placed in all categories. The results: Aquathlon: Men: 1.
