Dravid's fifth score in nineties

By Mohandas Menon

** The 65 run partnership between Rahul Dravid and Saurav Ganguly is India's best for the fourth wicket at this venue bettering the previous best of 62 between Dilip Vengsarkar and Ravi Shastri during the 1983 series.

** Dravid's 91 is his fifth score in the nineties. He now equals Sunil Gavaskar's tally - the maximum such scores by an Indian batsman in Tests.

** Playing in his 34th Test and 56th innings, V.V.S. Laxman (124 not out), when on 28, became the 27th Indian and the 214th batsman overall, to aggregate 2000 Test runs.

** Laxman, who registered his third Test hundred, became the third Indian after Mohinder Amarnath (116) and Ravi Shastri (102) - both in 1983 - to make hundreds at this venue.

** Ajay Ratra (93 not out) recorded his highest first-class score. His previous highest was the 77 he made against Jammu & Kashmir at Jammu in 2000-01.

** The unbeaten 205 runs partnership between Laxman and Ratra is the best for India against the West Indies obliterating the 186 between Dilip Sardesai and Eknath Solkar at Bridgetown in 1971.

** The above partnership is also the highest for the seventh wicket by any team against the West Indies eclipsing the 197 put on by Englishmen Mike Smith and Jim Parks at Port of Spain in March 1960.

** It is also by far the best for the seventh wicket at this venue bettering the 118 by Englishmen Jack Russell and Chris Lewis in April 1994.

** India's 462 for six is the highest score by the team at the venue. India had made 457 during the 1983 tour.

** The last occasion India had batted for more than 180 overs in an innings in an away Test match was also against the West Indies at Port of Spain in 1997. Indian had then made 436 in 183.4 overs.
