In Tamil Nadu, both Mr.Vaiko and the Tamil Nationalist Movement leader, P. Nedumaran, were speaking openly in support of the LTTE, he told a press conference here. Any party or organisation speaking in support of the LTTE deserved to be dealt with sternly. Still, the MDMK, a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance at the Centre, was championing the cause of the Tamil Tigers. Mr. Narayanasamy said he would send to the Union Home Minister a letter with copies of Mr. Vaiko's speeches. (Mr. Vaiko addressed the meeting organised here last week by the local MDMK to mark the eighth anniversary of the party).
Entry tax woes
The PCC leader, who just returned from New Delhi, said he had met the Home Minister and brought to his notice the sufferings caused to industrialists and merchants by an entry tax, imposed by the Tamil Nadu Government. Goods moved into Tamil Nadu from here were subject to the entry tax. Already a uniform sales tax was implemented in the Union Territory. Now, the entry tax would only push up prices and it would also be violative of the spirit of uniform sales tax. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, had already written to the Centre seeking its intervention to remove the hurdle caused by the entry tax. If the Centre did not help, the Congress-led Government here would reconsider continuing with the uniform sales tax structure, Mr. Narayanasamy said.
