Under the programme, Rs. 20.15 crores has been sanctioned for Kurnool district to construct 1.78 lakh individual toilets and create toilet facilities in 1882 schools. In Kurnool district, 2.39 lakh families below the poverty line were identified as requiring toilet facilities. However, 15,800 families are covered under earlier schemes. Each family will be given Rs. 750 and a quintal rice while the beneficiary is expected to bear the remaining cost. Of the total cost of the scheme, the Centre will release Rs. 13.36 crores, while the State Government has to give a matching grant of Rs. 4.19 crores. The Chief Engineer of World Bank Projects, M.A. Kareem, has said toilets will be constructed in a big way in schools. Girls toilet complexes will be built at a cost of Rs. 30,000, while boys toilets will cost Rs. 2,000.
