Sinha denial

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI May 15. The Union Finance Minister, Yashwant Sinha, today denied any "conflict of interest'' in his dealings with the Flex Industries. Neither his dignity as an MP nor his effectiveness as the Finance Minister was compromised by the purchase of election publicity material from the company, he said.

Making a statement in both the Houses of Parliament today, Mr. Sinha claimed that there was no link between these purchases and the CBI probe into the bribery case involving the Chief Excise Commissioner, Someshwar Mishra, and the Flex chief, Ashok Chaturvedi. Dissatisfied with the clarification, the Congress, the RJD and Left parties staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha but the Samajwadi Party leader, Mulayam Singh Yadav, supported Mr. Sinha.
