A car, an autorickshaw, a motorcycle and Rs.35,000 in cash have been recovered from them. The youth were arrested when they were preparing for another robbery near a Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Park on K.R.Road, according to police. They were armed with swords and choppers when the police surrounded them. The gang waylaid Kantilal, a jeweller from Chowdeswari Temple Road, near Avenue Road, while he was driving on Subedar Chatram Road along with his employee in a car in the wee hours of December 18, 2000. The gang pulled out the passengers of the car, robbed them of Rs.1.7 lakhs in cash before driving away with the vehicle. The car was found abandoned near the Vidhana Soudha. A month earlier, the gang had allegedly robbed a City-based silk merchant, Syed Amid, and his son, Syed Akram, who were returning in a jeep after a business trip to Dharmavaram, of Rs.2.5 lakh in cash near Chikkaballapur. They drove away with the jeep and abandoned it after some distance. The gang had reportedly relieved another businessman of Rs.5 lakh in Kolar Rural Police limits about a year ago. They were allegedly involved in another robbery reported from Hudco Police limits in Hosur, where they had escaped with Rs.70,000 in cash. The car seized by the police belonged to Aslam Khan of J.J.Nagar. Police said the arrested were Kaleem (28) of Siddarthanagar, Rizvan (28) of Byatarayanapura, Khadar (30) and Amjad (20), both of Padarayanapura, and Sajjed (24) of Goripalya.
Arrested
The Mico Layout Police arrested Ayub Khan (22) of Lingarajapuram, Fairoze (25) of K.G.Halli and Enayath (22) of D.J.Halli who allegedly tried to rob Dorairaj in Bismillanagar on May 14. The arrested were allegedly involved in cases of extortion in D.J.Halli and K.G.Halli. Jnanabharati Police arrested Afsar (30) of Padarayanapura, Imtiyaz (40) of Kengeri who allegedly stole a lorry, worth Rs.4 lakhs, from Srinivaspur in Kolar District. They had changed the registration number of the vehicle and were attempting to sell its spares.
