Six-day `Agri Intex' in August

BANGALORE May 16. The Coimbatore District Small Scale Industries Association (CODISSIA) will hold a six-day agricultural fair, ``Agri Intex 2002'' in Coimbatore from August 1. The focus of the fair is on waste land development and dry farming through horticultural crops, according to the ``Agri Intex 2002'' Chairman, K.Kasturirangaian, here on Thursday.

A whole range of floriculture items, export oriented products, spices, marine products, dairy and other food products, cold storage, parking items, organic manures and tissue culture were some of the products which would be on display at the fair, he said.

Exhibitors would explain to farmers the methods for value addition under the post harvest technology transfer. This would enable them to start subsidiary and ancillary units, he said.

This apart, the fair would have a live demonstration of the integrated farming system, agro forestry, horticulture, floriculture, seed production, water management, farm machineries and implements, sericulture and honey bee park on a five-acre site, Mr. Kasturirangaian said.

The Union Government departments, including Atomic Energy, Coffee Board, MPEDA, Spices Board, Coconut Development Board, Central Silk Board, Food Processing Industries and APEDA, would participate in the fair.

This apart, the departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Forest, Environment, Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board, Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and women's self-help groups from Tamil Nadu would participate.

A series of seminars and interactions on water management, watershed development, horticulture crops, medicinal plant cultivation and their export, agro industries were part of the exhibition, he said.

The Department of Animal Husbandry would hold an exhibition of ``hi-breed cattle'' and the Department of Dairy Development would a ``Calf Rally'' besides a demonstration on fish farming, he added.
