By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore May 16. The Institute of Parliamentary Studies has suggested to the Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, to consider, among others, the name of Justice V.S. Malimath, former Chief Justice of the Karnataka and Kerala High Courts and Member of the National Human Rights Commission, as the consensus candidate for the office of President of India. The Secretary to the institute, M.C. Shanthamurthy, has also suggested the consideration of the names of the Governor, V.S. Rama Devi (in picture), the Andhra Pradesh Governor, C. Rangarajan, and the eminent agricultural scientist, M.S. Swaminathan, for the presidentship. Prof. Shanthamurthy said the candidate for the office of President should have national stature and also international exposure, should not be a member of any political party, and should be known for honesty, fairness, mature behaviour, good health, knowledge of the Constitution, and understanding of the working of the Union and State governments.
