BSNL touch screen kiosk inauguration today

Pondicherry May 16. As part of its current efforts to come into close contact with the telephone subscribers the Pondicherry wing of BSNL is introducing what is called `Touch screen kiosks' as part of the celebration of the World Telecommunications Day tomorrow.

A communication from the BSNL said today that Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy would formally declare open the kiosk at a function at the Telephone Exchange tomorrow.

The highlights of the kiosks are acceptance of cheques or Demand Drafts from the subscribers and also to issue a provisional receipt for the payment made.

The kiosks would function at Customer Service Centre and at the Central Telegraph office in Rangapillai street.

Subscribers can get duplicate telephone bills by dropping a one rupee coin for each bill at the kiosk.

The Chief Minsiter would also inaugurate a Telecom centre at the Rajiv Gandhi Municipal Bus Stand in Orleanpet tomorrow and this centre would accept cheques or Demand Drafts for the telephone bills before the `pay by date'.

The Telecom centre would function for four hours from 10 a.m.

There would also be sale of India Telephone Cards in the denominations of Rs 105, Rs 210 and Rs 525 and applications for new phone connections and for shifting of existing connections would also be available at the telecom centre.

Online counters would function at Olandai Keerapalayam and Mettupalayam Telephone Exchanges and at the SDE office in Lawspet.

These counters would also enable subscribers to remit by cheque or DDs the bill amount (pay by date bills) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on all working days.

The BSNL has also arranged for demonstration of various services available from it, the ISDN with video conferencing and usage of ITCs.

Those registering tomorrow for new phone connection would be given a gift and the booking would go on from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m..
