Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
Addressing a press conference here today, the Yuva Morcha State president, M. T. Ramesh, said the number of unemployed youth in the State had mounted to 44 lakh and the Antony Government was moving away from its assurance of providing 15 lakh jobs in five years. He said Mr. Antony had so far not announced any concrete proposal in this regard. While strictly implementing a ban on recruitments as per the Asian Development Bank (ADB) directive, backdoor appointments were on the increase. The role of the Public Service Commission had been limited with many departments taking employees on daily wage basis, he said. Mr. Ramesh said the Morcha would organise ``jail marches'' in 17 centres of the State on May 27 to protest against the anti-youth policies of the Government and its failure to solve the mounting unemployment problem. During the march, the Morcha activists would raise slogans such as ``give a job to every hand, show a way to lead a life.'' The Morcha president said the one year rule of the UDF Government had overtaken the previous Nayanar Government in the case of corruption and largesse. ``The Government had not been able to solve the financial crisis being faced by the State nor launch developmental activities,'' he said. The Morcha's district units would organise rallies from May 16 to 23 all over the State to create public opinion against the anti-people policies of the UDF Government, he added.
