32 bids received for Krishna water project

HYDERABAD May 16. The much-awaited project to bring Krishna water to the city was set into motion on Thursday with the opening of tenders.

A total of 32 bids were received for laying pipeline to draw 90 MGD of water as a part of the phase I of the project. The tenders were opened in the office of the Chief General Manager, Project Constructions, Circle III. The 114-km pipeline work, estimated to cost Rs. 487 crores, is divided into four packages. The first and second packages attracted nine bids each and third and fourth seven each. The pipeline is to be laid from Kodandapur to Santhoshnagar crossroads to connect the existing water supply system.

Larsen and Toubro Ltd, Hyderabad, Nagarjuna Construction Company, Hyderabad, and Essar Projects Ltd, Mumbai, have bid for all the four package works. IVRCL Infrastructures and Projects Ltd, Hyderabad, has bid for packages I, III and IV while Engineering Projects (India) Ltd has bid for packages I, II and IV. Gammon India Ltd, Mumbai, has bid for packages I and II while Petron Civil Engineering Private Ltd, Mumbai, has bid for packages I and IV.

The others were: Tata Projects Ltd, Hyderabad (package I), Sheth and Sura Engineers Ltd, Pune, Bhooratnam and Company, Secunderabad, Subash Projects and Marketing Ltd, New Delhi, Navayuga Engineering Company, Hyderabad (package II), FACT Engineering Works, Kochi, Shonan Enginering Works, Pune, Taher Ali Industires and Projects, Hyderabad (package III), and Indian Hume Pipe Company, Patancheru (package IV).

Technical evaluation of the bidders would be done by an expert committee within a month. "The whole process will take at least three months,'' said P. Mohd. Abdul Rehman, Chief General Manager, Project Construction. He said tenders for construction of 45 MGD water treatment plant, the other component of the scheme, would be opened on July 1.
