Gambhir continues his good work

Colombo May 18. Left-handed opener Gautam Gambhir followed his first innings score of 79 with a knock of 120 as India `A' consolidated on the 115-run lead over Sri Lanka `A' on the third and penultimate day of the first `Test' at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground on Saturday.

At close, India `A' was 302 for four with J.P. Yadav (46, 50b, 2x4, 3x6) and Rohan Gavaskar (22) at the crease. The visitor is now ahead by 417 runs.

Gambhir (167b, 15x4) raised 138 for the opening wicket with Akash Chopra (51, 122b, 4x4) and 58 for the second with S. Sriram (45, 71b, 5x4), before falling to paceman P.W. Gunaratne.

For Sri Lanka `A', off-spinner M. Pushpakumara, who got rid of Chopra and skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar (7), was the most successful bowler.

The scores: India `A' 315 and 302 for four (Gautam Gambhir 120, Akash Chopra 51, S. Sriram 45, J.P. Yadav 46 batting) vs Sri Lanka `A' 200.
