India had qualified for the World Group competition, by making the top four in the tournament. The event was won by Chinese Taipei as it beat China 2-1 in the final. Incidentally, the Indian girls under-14 team had also finished third in Jakarta, a week earlier. The Indian boys under-14 team had won the title in Colombo, and it is left to the Indian under-16 boys team to round up the fine effort of the junior teams with a qualifier's spot in Kuala Lumpur this week. The results: Final: Chinese Taipei bt China 2-1 (Yi Chen bt Quan Gao 6-4, 7-6 (8-6); Wen-Hsin Hsu lost to Rui Du 3-6, 1-6; I-Hui Chang and Yi Chen bt Quan Gao and Rui Du 7-6 (7-5), 6-3). Third place: India bt Korea 3-0 (Ankita Bhambri bt Jae-Hee Joung 6-3, 6-1; Sania Mirza bt So-Jung Kim 7-5, 7-5; Ankita and Sania bt Jae-Hee Joung and So-Jung Kim 7-5, 6-4). Final placings: Chinese Taipei, China, India, Korea, Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Uzbekistan, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Philippines.
