NEW DELHI May 20. The India Meteorological Department today warned that a fresh spell of heat wave conditions could be in the offing in several parts of the country, in particular over Haryana, Rajasthan, southern Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and interior Maharahstra during the next two to three days.

In a statement issued here this evening, the Department said the atmospheric circulation pattern, which had turned favourable following the development of a low pressure area over west central Bay of Bengal has once again changed to hot and dry westerly and north-westerly winds which are extending across Central India into Orissa and Andhra Pradesh.

Our Bhubaneswar Staff Reporter reports:

Severe heatwave conditions gripped most parts of Orissa today even as the officially confirmed toll due to sunstroke rose to 11 in the State.

Bhubaneswar experienced a maximum day temperature of 46.1 degrees celsius today, the highest in 30 years.

Toll mounts to 734

UNI reports from New Delhi:

Ten more persons have died in the intense heat wave sweeping the country, taking the toll to 734 so far, 666 of them in worst-hit Andhra Pradesh.

The gruelling heat wave conditions in Rajasthan claimed six more lives today, two of them women, in Kota Baran and Jhalawar districts as the toll rose to 47 in the desert State. Four persons died in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh where the day temperature touched nearly 46 degrees celsius.
