Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to your Editorial, ``Time now for governance'' (May 20). It is very unfortunate that our political parties are touching a new low ebb of moralities without having any concern for real governance. Nomination of rowdy elements by different parties for elections is a clear indication that they are interested only in the power game and not in good governance. The opportunistic alliances defy the trust and confidence of their respective vote-banks, exploiting which they come to power. The BSP came in the reckoning only by fighting against what it called the oppressive policies of the upper castes, represented by the BJP, and by making the Dalits stand up against them. Now Mayawati's joining hands with the same ``oppressive'' forces not only betrays her vote-bank but also shows that she is interested in pursuing her personal agenda. Her declaration after winning the confidence motion in the Assembly that she is forming a coalition Government with the BJP to save the State from another election is only an example of her opportunism.
