Hired assassins' gang busted

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD MAY 21. In a classic undercover operation, city task force officials busted a hired assassins gang allegedly rolled by their leader who is serving a jail term in Cherlapally on the city outskirts, for his involvement in the infamous Jubilee Hills bomb blast case.

Three alleged hired assassins and seven of their abettors were arrested and two revolvers, one of them a .38 calibre prohibited bore weapon, along with 12 rounds of live ammunition were seized from their possession in the undercover operation in which the police sent a decoy who struck a deal with them to "eliminate'' a target.

The contract killers' gang was allegedly being maintained by Surya Narayan Reddy alias Suri of Maddelacheruvu in Anantapur, who is presently serving his life term in the jail. With the help of a cellular phone Suri was operating the gang as he was in dire need of money, the Additional Commissioner of Police, A.K. Khan, told a press conference here on Tuesday.

The arrested persons included Ankireddy Chandrasekhar Reddy of Cuddapah, Lakkireddy Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy of Anantapur and Bhanupally Madan Mohan Reddy of Cuddapah. Their associates Bhanu Kiran, D. Krishna, Sudershan Setty, Y. Satyanarayana, Y. Ramesh Reddy, V.V. Madhu Mohan Reddy and N. Narsimha Reddy were also arrested.

Mr. Khan said while Suri issued instructions through his mobile from the jail, Chandrasekhar Reddy used to execute the deals and collect money as instructed. It is also suspected that the gangsters could have participated in murders in Anantapur and Cuddapah districts. The police in these two districts had also been alerted and investigations were being carried out, Mr. Khan added.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Chandrasekhar Reddy had collected Rs. 65,000 from N. Narsimha Reddy, a vegetable contractor of Saidabad to "convince'' his rival businessman to abstain from participating in auctions. Suri was also operating in Anantapur with the help of his associate Raghunath Reddy and Madhu who used to brief him on the developments in the district on his mobile.

It is suspected that Rammohan Reddy, wanted in a murder-cum- robbery case in Visakhapatnam could be involved in the hired assassins gang. The police team led by the Additional DCP, Shaik Mohd. Iqbal, sent in the decoy to the gangsters who were willing to offer their services.
