The 15-year-old Vijayawada girl, sponsored by Bank of Baroda, agreed for a draw against IM Postny Evegny (ELO 2482) after 71 moves in the first round. Playing white, Humpy opted for her favourite nf3 line to which the reply was with d5 and the game later transposed into Slav Defence. Humpy castled queenside on the 11th move and tried to attack black's King by sacrificing a pawn in the middle-game. After some complications, both were in time pressure. On the 48th move, Humpy overlooked a move to win her opponent's queen and after that the game simplified as rook and pawn ending. In the second round against GM Anka Emil, Humpy, playing black, opted for the Petroff Defence and gained equality after 19 moves. Anka tried to attack Humpy's king with aggressive moves - rb4 and rg4 on the 21st and 22nd moves. However, Humpy was equal to the task by exchanging heavy pieces to reach opposite coloured bishops ending with a pawn minus, which was technically drawn in 44 moves.
