The association had boycotted the work in protest against the university's "recalcitrant attitude" towards their views on the ongoing educational reforms ushered in at the graduate level. In a press release, Prabhuswamy, President of the association, and K.P. Vasudevan, its general secretary, said the decision to resume the evaluation followed an assurance from the Vice-Chancellor, S.N. Hegde, that certain reforms, including the introduction of the semester system, would be implemented only after eliciting the views of the teachers. The members of the association met Prof. Hegde on Monday to discuss their grievances, and they were satisfied with the assurances of the former. A decision on introducing the semester system for undergraduate courses would be taken only after a meeting of the teachers' representatives in the presence of the Commissioner of Higher Education and the Director of Collegiate Education at the end of May. The association had also placed a few other demands.
