Police foil Left parties' protest plan

By Our Staff Reporter

NELLORE MAY 21. Police took into custody two functionaries of the CITU and the CPI (M) at Burmahashell gunta area here on Tuesday when the latter were planning a stir over lack of facilities to passengers at the newly-built bus stop. In the evening, the police foiled the plan of the Left parties to take out a rally protesting against the arrests. However, they were later released.

Trouble began in the morning in the when some CITU and CPI (M) functionaries gathered at the place and started enquiring about facilities to passengers. It may be pointed out that the place, which was encroached, was cleared by police and made it a make-shift bus stop for RTC and other vehicles in view of a fly-over bridge work at Atmakur bus stand.

The police did all the work by mobilising a large number of personnel and no political party offered any help.

When the bus stop started functioning, the political functionaries started making enquiries notwithstanding the presence of the Superintendent of Police, K. V. Rajendranath Reddy, who has been regularly visiting the place. As the presence of the Left parties functionaries was causing inconvenience to passengers and they were planning to stage a dharna, the SP instructed the staff to take into custody the two functionaries--Mohan Rao and Janardhan.

The SP said he would not allow any sort of agitation in the area.
