Medical sociology meet from May 29

CHENNAI May 21. Social science is gaining importance. The medical fraternity and the Government have come to accept that curative measures with the support of social sciences would help resolve many diseases.

Providing a platform for a dialogue in the direction, the Madras Medical Mission is organising a two-day medical sociology conference on ` Health, illness and society in the mew millennium', beginning May 29.

Social scientists, practising doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists will attend the interactive meet, in which the Director of Cardiff University, Michael Bloor, will speak on `the potential sociological contribution to HIV- related risk reduction some reflections'. The Director-General of the Indian Council of Medical Research will talk on ` The need for health related social science research in India'. About 150 delegates are expected to attend the multi-disciplinary conference, according to the organisers.
