Villagers foil dacoity; five accused held

BANGALORE May 21. People of Kebbare village near Devagiri in the Talaghattapura police station limits caught five men armed with clubs and choppers, who were allegedly waiting in a car to commit a dacoity, on Monday evening.

Police said the five men were waiting on the outskirts of Kebbare when Lakshman of the village and his friends questioned them. The accused abused them and asked them to go away. Mr. Lakshman returned with a number of people armed with choppers and clubs. Although the five accused attempted to get away, the people from Kebbare overpowered them and bound them to a tree.

The Talaghattapura police, who were informed about the incident, arrested the accused and produced them before a magistrate.

The car used by the accused was seized.

Shankar, Govinda, and Mahimaraju of the village, and the accused, Ravi, Ravi alias Pancharangi, and Nandish, who were injured in the incident, were treated as outpatients in a hospital. The accused, including Raja, the car driver, and Ratnamma, were aged between 25 and 30, and were from J.P. Nagar and Sarakki, police said.
