Sir, Promila Chowdhary in ``Retirement age of judges'' (May 21) has raised a vital issue for national debate. The Venkatachaliah Commission has recommended that the retirement age of the judges of the High Court be raised from 62 to 65 and that of the Supreme Court judges from 65 to 68. There is no need for such a move, given the general state of unemployment and lack of adequate promotional opportunities. S. Bakthavathsalan, Chennai
