TAMIN examining govt. land for mineral exploration

CHENNAI May 22. The Tamil Nadu Minerals Ltd. (TAMIN) is examining government lands at 18 places in the State for exploration of quartz and feldspars minerals.

According to the TAMIN Chairman and Managing Director, N. Govindan, the State-owned undertaking initiated action jointly with the Department of Geology and Mining to evaluate the quality and reserves of quartz and feldspars for explorations.

In a press release here, he said the scope of exploring molybdenum for making rockets and missiles was also in progress.

The TAMIN achieved a sales turnover of Rs. 67.05 crores during 2001-02 and posted a net profit of Rs. 7.46 crores, which was a 133 per cent increase over the previous financial year. For the current fiscal, it expects a turnover of Rs. 100 crores and a profit before tax of Rs. 20 crores.
