Announcing this at the Corporation Council Meeting here today, the Mayor, Jose Kattookaran, said that the High Court appointed Monitoring Committee headed by the District Collector has recommended three months time for the Corporation to upgrade the waste treatment plant at Laloor. However, the HC allowed the Corporation to dump waste till May 31 as a temporary measure. Speaking on the topic in the Corporation, the Leader of the Opposition, A. M. Krishnan, said that though waste was dumped in 17 lorries earlier, now only six lorries are coming to the Laloor waste treatment plant. He alleged that even three-fourths of the waste in 6 lorries were not being treated by the treatment plant at Laloor now as it did not have the required capacity. The opposition member of Laloor, Sudhakaran, pointed out that the waste was not being segregated properly at the plant now. The contracting firm was not keeping the terms and conditions of the agreement. Though the agreement said of recruiting 40 persons at the plant, only four persons were being employed.. The `orgaver' machine at the plant was not good, he alleged. He suggested that de-centralisation was the solution to the waste problem of the city. He said that garbage was accumulating causing difficulty to the public.
